Auwen 1.6.9 Update

Sound designers and live coders, Auwen Version 1.6.9 is out now! This release focuses on making sound design more expressive and your workflow more organized, with improvements to the sample command, a brand-new rollWonk command, a powerful group system, and several bug fixes that were long overdue.

What's New in Version 1.6.9:

  • Improved s (sample) Command: The sample command now sounds more natural and handles a wider range of uses, giving you more expressive control when sampling on the fly.
  • New rollWonk Command: A fresh tool for bending and shaping rolls in creative ways, opening up new possibilities for rhythmic sound design and granular synthesis.
  • Bank Folder in the Info Bar: Your current bank folder is now shown directly in the info bar so you always know which bank you're working from at a glance.
  • New group Command: Group sounds together and reference them as a unit. Use g0 to select a group, and commands like lb synth will automatically load all sounds that share a group with the loaded sound — great for keeping related samples organized and quickly accessible.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed a rendering bug that was causing some sounds not to display when they should
  • Fixed a join bug making joined sounds too quiet
  • Fixed a join bug causing the vowel effect to double up
  • Replaced the scroll command with two more focused commands — scrollLog and scrollToTrack — for easier navigation of logs and tracks in multiplayer sessions

Improved s Command

One struggle we have often faced with Auwen is the samples get cut too short! And they can sound a bit glitchy or stuttery. But now the s command keeps more of the original sound and it can import long one shots. For even more control try the ps (precision sample command).

The group Command in Practice

The new group command is a simple but powerful organizational tool. Once you've grouped sounds together, you can select the whole group at once with g0 (or whichever group number you've assigned). When loading from the bank, lb synth will pull in all sounds that share a group with your currently loaded sound — so instead of hunting down individual files, your related samples come along for the ride automatically.

This makes it much easier to build and perform with cohesive sets of sounds without losing your place.
