Free Album Art Creator: Design Cover Art Right in Your Browser

Every release needs cover art, and not every musician has a designer on speed dial or a budget for one. That's why we built the Album Art Creator, a completely free browser-based tool for building original, layered album covers. There's nothing to install and nothing to buy — open the page, start stacking visual elements, and export a full-resolution image when you're happy with it.

What You Can Build

The Album Art Creator works by layering independent visual generators on top of each other, so you can combine styles that would normally live in totally different pieces of software. None of this would be possible without a handful of open-source libraries, and it's worth calling out exactly who built what:

Palette, powered by Poline, a color palette generator by David Aerne (meodai). Poline builds smooth, harmonic gradients by placing anchor points in color space and letting you choose how it blends between them. We wrote more about how Poline's approach to color mirrors music theory in our earlier piece on the tool.
Gradient Mesh, built on mesh-gradient.js by Anup A, a small utility for rendering soft, flowing mesh gradients directly to an HTML canvas.
Voxel Sculpture, rendered with Heerich, a tiny 3D voxel scene engine also from David Aerne. It's what generates the isometric, oblique, orthographic, and perspective scenes (cityscapes, spheres, carved blocks) as clean vector-style shapes.
Blobs, generated with blobshape by Lokesh Rajendran, a library for producing organic, rounded SVG blob shapes.
Voronoi, computed with d3-delaunay, part of the D3 ecosystem, originally written by Mike Bostock with contributions from Vladimir Agafonkin and Philippe Rivière. It calculates the Delaunay triangulation and Voronoi diagram behind the cell, triangle, and mesh tessellation patterns.
Remix Pile — browse album art shared by other people using the tool, and drop any of them in as a starting layer for your own remix.

Each layer can be reordered, duplicated, merged down, or edited independently, so you can build up a composition the same way you'd stack tracks in a mix: start broad, then add detail on top. If any of these generators catches your eye, the libraries above are all open source and worth exploring on their own.

Free to Use, No Catch

There's no paywall, no premium tier, and no watermark stamped across your artwork. You design your cover, and when it's ready you download it as a full 3000×3000 pixel PNG — large enough for streaming platform cover art requirements, vinyl jackets, or print. Because everything runs in your browser, there's no account required to experiment, and nothing to install on your machine.

Why We Built It

At Soniare, we make tools for musicians who'd rather stay hands-on with every part of their creative process, from performing with Auwen's command-line interface to designing the cover art that represents the finished track. The Album Art Creator is our attempt to give you that same direct, layered control over your artwork, built on the generosity of the open-source developers listed above.
